Why these high school debs will literally be walking on water... 

There’s a very, very fancy ball coming up at the Camelback Inn. It’s one of the most formal traditions of the Phoenix social season- and the 37 flower girls pictured above at a prior holiday party- will be in the spotlight. They're going to be walking on water- LITERALLY. 

That’s because these debutantes will be presented by their fathers on a runway built over the fountain pool on the Garden Terrace of the Camelback Inn. (In past years, prior to the resort’s remodel, the runway jetting into the middle of the swimming pool.)  This Phoenix tradition is almost 100 years old and the Board of Visitors, which hosts the elegant affair is the oldest charitable organization in Arizona. The Board of Visitors has raised over $14 million to serve the health care needs of women, children and the elderly in the greater metropolitan Phoenix area.

This year’s flower girls from Valley high schools have not only been practicing their curtsies for the formal presentation over the water- but for  their waltz as well.  There is even a waltz- curtsy party months prior to the event. Mona Smith is chair of this year’s 97th Annual Board of Visitors Charity Ball on April 21st. The dinner dance includes the flower girl presentation and the father-daughter waltz.

Ticket prices start at $450 per person and at there are still some tickets available for soiree. The 2012 flower girls are: Samantha Mae Allen.
