Head to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art where visitors can explore three captivating exhibitions including Architecture + Art Chris Fraser: Looking Back, Bruce Munro: Ferryman’s Crossing, and Kelly Richardson: Tales on the Horizon.

Kelly Richardson: Tales on the Horizon meld together the worlds of science fiction and science in a dynamic multi sensory experience that immerses the audience. Explore an eerie Martian landscape with remnants from past space missions in “Mariner 9”.  Rocket-launched objects in “Orion Tide” light up the serene night sky. According to the SMoCA, “Richardson is taking cues from 19th-century landscape painting, 20th-century cinema, and 21st-century planetary research, the artist crafts video installations that offer imaginative glimpses into the future and prompt a careful consideration of the present.” This brilliant exhibition will be on display through January 10, 2016.

Architecture + Art Chris Fraser: Looking Back is the fourth edition of this series, which “SMoCA commissions architects and artists to create site-specific installations in response to the spatial, environmental and social context of the Museum’s site in Scottsdale, Arizona” states SMoCA. Fraser’s installation explores light, shadow and movement in a dynamic room installation inspired by Arizona and out diverse and unique architecture and it will be on display through January 10, 2016.

Bruce Munro: Ferryman’s Crossing is a captivating installation of compact discs that have been placed in rows are then lit with pulses of light which cause the cd’s to shimmer. “ An installation that evokes sunlight bouncing off the surface of flowing water that Munro uses light to animate environments in ways that activate myriad associations”, according to the SMoCA.  This exhibition is apart of the Desert Radiance Series with additional installations by the artist at the Desert Botanical Garden, Lisa Sette Gallery and with Scottsdale Public Art. This unique exhibition will be on display through April 24, 2016.

SMoCA museum admission is only $7 for adults, $5 for students, and children under 15 are free. Every Thursday the museum offers complementary admission as well as Friday and Saturday evenings after 5pm. FREE Docent-led museum tours are every Thursday at 1:30 p (no reservations required); and every Sunday at 1:30pm from October through April, FREE with Museum admission. Located in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale at 7374 East Second Street, Scottsdale 85251.
