Celebrating a Year of Flavor and Passion: Mixela’s Culinary Journey

This year marks the first anniversary of Mixela, the beloved restaurant founded by Chef Gian Franco and hospitality expert Valentina Huerta. Their shared journey spans years of dedication to the art of cooking and providing exceptional dining experiences.

With roots in Italy and decades of restaurant expertise, the duo has crafted a space where traditional European cuisine meets a modern twist, creating an intimate yet sophisticated atmosphere for every guest.

“We’ve always wanted to create a place where people feel like family and are treated to food that reminds them of home – but with an innovative edge,” Chef Gian Franco, who grew up watching his nonna cook, said. “For us, it’s not just about food; it’s about creating memories over a shared meal.”

Valentina, who manages the front of house, added, “The best part is seeing our guests leave with smiles, transferring love. That’s how we know we’ve done our job right. This past year has been amazing, and we’re just getting started. We’re excited to continue growing and bringing new flavors to our community.”

Their path in the restaurant industry has been full of challenges, but their dedication to quality, culinary innovation, and heartfelt service has been unwavering. With a focus on sustainability, seasonal ingredients, and a welcoming atmosphere, Mixela is becoming a cornerstone of the Arizona food scene.

Mixela offers a menu focused on small plates and crudos, featuring dishes like Peruvian sea bass ceviche, prosciutto-and-burrata bruschetta, Japanese-style sushi, and Northwest-Spain-inspired bacalao empanadas.

The drink program embraces the European “aperitivo” tradition with curated Old World wines, craft cocktails featuring bitters, Fernet, and spritzes, as well as locally sourced sake and beer.

“Food is not just about nourishment; it’s about telling stories and creating connections. Every dish on our menu has a story to tell, and we’re grateful to share those stories with our guests,” Chef Gian Franco said.

The atmosphere is intentionally warm and inviting, blending casual elegance with a “slick and a little sexy” vibe, encouraging guests to gather and enjoy a communal dining experience.

“It’s all about love, passion and a love for food, for service, for our guests. That love drives everything we do, and it’s what we hope to continue sharing with everyone who walks through our doors,” Valentina said.

As Mixela celebrates this milestone, it’s clear that the duo’s culinary journey is only just beginning, promising even more flavors, stories, and memorable experiences for years to come. Learn more at mixelaphx.com.
