Salt & Straw Opens Newest AZ Location in Tempe

Salt & Straw, the award-winning Portland-based ice cream company, has officially opened its second Arizona location at Novus Place in Tempe. This follows the success of the brand’s debut in the state last summer in Gilbert’s Agritopia neighborhood.

Salt & Straw began as a humble ice cream cart founded by cousins Kim and Tyler Malek. Over the years, the company has grown into a nationally recognized name with shops in Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, New York, Arizona, and Florida.

Salt & Straw has carved out a niche through its innovative flavor combinations, culinary craftsmanship, and deep-rooted community connections. Signature classics, such as Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons and Double Fold Vanilla, sit alongside inventive options like Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper.

Located steps from Tempe Town Lake and ASU’s main campus, Novus Place is a lively hub drawing students, locals, and visitors alike. With its arrival, Salt & Straw brings not only its core menu of thirteen classic flavors but also its hallmark rotating monthly menus, which offer limited-time flavors built around seasonal inspirations, collaborations, and culturally rooted stories.

“Opening our second shop in Arizona is a huge milestone,” Kim said. “From the moment we arrived, the community in this state has embraced us with so much warmth and enthusiasm. We’re thrilled to deepen our roots here with a new shop in Tempe, so we can continue to foster our Arizona community and bring them our most imaginative and delicious ice cream flavors.”

Adding to the excitement of the opening is the Halloween Series, the brand’s current rotating seasonal menu. Inspired by nostalgic candies, spooky critters, and autumnal flavors, this month’s offerings include The Great Candycopia: salted butterscotch ice cream packed with a trick-or-treater’s dream of chocolate candies; and Jack O’Lantern Pumpkin Bread, featuring chunks of pumpkin bread and swirls of cream cheese frosting.

Also on the menu is Creepy Crawly Critters, made with matcha ice cream and candy-coated edible insects; Essence of Ghost, a blend of scotch-infused sherbet and dark chocolate; and Double Bubble Toil & Trouble, a vegan flavor with pineapple, banana, pear, and coconut cream.

With its imaginative flavors, community spirit, and immersive storytelling, Salt & Straw continues to redefine what ice cream can be. Learn more at saltandstraw.com.
