Title: General Manager of Colorado River Discovery

Married/Single: Engaged

Kids: None

City you live in: Page, Arizona

A typical day in my life includes…

waking up in the morning and realizing I get to manage a business that brings joy to many people across the world. I wake up with energy and hopefully bring that energy to my employees and transfer my passion to our guests.

I was born…

as one would imagine, I don’t remember much about my birth. But I was born Sept. 16, 1980 in Phoenix at St. Joseph’s Hospital. I thank God every day my mom was able to bring me into this world.

My favorite thing about Arizona…

is the diversity of the landscape in this state. Every 50 miles you drive, you have new scenery. Arizona is a big state, but if done right, you can travel the whole thing in a week and see so many different landscapes.

I’m listening to…

podcasts. There’s a new podcast called More Perfect that is about the Supreme Court on NPR that I’m listening to.

My family…

is my inspiration. Both my mother and father are very driven. They are inspiring to me and just about everyone they come in contact with. And my fiancée is my support and my rock.

If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be…

it would probably be my grandfather who has passed away. Vic Hooper. He was instrumental in bringing me up and hopefully instrumental in making me who I am today.

One thing I cannot live without…

having access to wilderness in a close vicinity to where my actual home is.

When I was younger, I wanted to be…

a firetruck.

I’m inspired by…

my business and the guests who visit. First off, Colorado River Discovery is an incredibly easy thing to sell. A lot of people ask us if we ever get tired looking at the same scenery, but we don’t because we end up seeing the canyon through other people’s eyes for the first time. There’s never monotony in fresh eyes seeing something for the first time.

The one person who motivates me is…

truly my wife-to-be. The amount that I’ve been able to accomplish since knowing her has increased by 3, 4, maybe 5 times. She makes me more well-rounded.

If I could change anything in the world, it would be…

I would want the ability for humans to hold their breath for as long as possible so we could explore the ocean and see all the creatures and life down there.

The perfect day would be…

waking up at the peak or the rim of some canyon in Arizona, witnessing the sunrise at a beautiful location, hiking and exploring around that region and sleeping out under the stars.

My first job was…

I worked at Jenny Craig, the weight-loss company, and was in charge of stocking all the food the consultants would need for a week.

My favorite escape…

is that I work where I play. It’s a unique opportunity for people to be able to work in an environment where people also want R&R. Here in Page, the river is much more accessible than in other places.

My life…

is an absolute pleasure to live. It’s filled with challenges, some of which bring turmoil, which also end up bringing out growth. And from that I strive to be better than I was before.

I’m currently working on…

I am a member of the city council in Page, and we are currently working on a project to deal with the crazy traffic at Horseshoe Bend. We are trying to make the area safe and enjoyable without taking away the beauty of the area.

Always…

I always get at least 8 hours of sleep at night.

Never…

I never wear shoes in the summertime.

Favorite Quote…

“You cannot grow a beard in a moment of passion.”– G.K. Chesterton

Biggest Dream…

would be for everyone to feel at least some connection to the beautiful spaces we have in this world. I think it’s incredibly important that everyone have the ability to connect with wilderness.

My Pet Peeve(s)…

I’m strongly against and incredibly dislike passive aggressiveness.
