AZF: What is your “life motto”?
Life is short. We are never guaranteed tomorrow, so live every day like it’s your last. Work hard and play harder!
AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be an entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path right for you?
No, I didn’t always know I wanted to be an entrepreneur, but I did always know I wanted to do hair. I did hair for over 16 years, working in larger salons in Minnesota. It wasn’t until I moved to Arizona that I decided to go out on my own. I realized when I moved here that I wanted to give my clients a different experience than I had in the past, and I wanted it to be more catered to them and their needs. I also wanted to have the flexibility of being my own boss and making my own schedule.
AZF: How do you feel best supported?
I feel best supported by being around like-minded individuals who have similar goals and motivation. Surrounding myself with people who share similar values and expectations for their businesses and lives only makes me want to work harder and do even better. Positivity is key!
AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?
I try to learn from every hardship or challenge that comes my way. I remember that these are put in my path to make me become a stronger and more knowledgeable business owner. They force me to think outside the box to better my business and myself.
AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday morning.
My perfect Saturday morning would be waking up in a house on the beach, with just the right amount of wind blowing, and enjoying what nature has to offer.
AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?
Find a mentor and never stop learning. Having a great mentor who has been in the business for a long time will help guide you into the type of businessperson you’d like to be and set the goals you want to achieve.
I also recommend continued education. There is always more to learn in any industry that you choose to have a business in. The more you know, the more confident you are and the more credible you are to others when talking about what you do.
AZF: What excites you most about being an entrepreneur?
The thing that excites me most about being an entrepreneur is creating a comfortable environment for my clients to enjoy while getting their hair done. I like being able to give them a safe place where they can talk about anything and express themselves however they feel comfortable. I want them to come to my salon to get a break from their everyday routine.
