Foundress Fridays: Heather Henderson, Owner and Operator of HER Bookkeeping Solutions

Heather Henderson is the founder, owner and operator of HER Bookkeeping Solutions

“I’m a bookkeeping business that helps women owned small businesses gain confidence and clarity in their finances and numbers. I take the confusion and overwhelm about bookkeeping and turn it into a clear, tangible vision that will empower my clients to own their numbers in business. I give peace of mind knowing that all the bookkeeping needs are being taken care off behind the scenes, so that business owners can get back to doing what they love.”

AZF: What is your “life motto”?
HH: That nothing is permanent. That the journey of being an entrepreneur is always evolving as am I as a business owner and mother. You have to learn to go with the curve when the road no longer goes straight.

AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path right for you?
HH: Yes! I have always had that itch to do something on my own. I used to go door to door in my neighborhood as a child and sell flowers from my garden to make money for ice cream! I have tried several different business ideas in the past but non felt quite right. This is the one that has made the most sense and that I feel deeply passionate about.

AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst of the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?
HH: My family, my girls. Knowing that their watching me show up every day even on the bad days or days I don’t feel like it. I know that I’m creating an example for them to see what putting in the hard work looks like.

AZF: What excites you most about being an entrepreneur?
HH: The autonomy! I have two little ones at home (2.5 and 5) and I love that I get to still be involved with all the day to day and also get to be a business owner. It was a big reason why I decided to start this business, I love working with numbers and getting to know people; and when I realized I could do both there was no going back.

AZF: How do you feel best supported?
HH: Being part of a community. That’s why I’m part of The Foundress and tell every women business owner I know about! When you’re a solopreneur like myself, it can get lonely from day to day. Having a community that not only makes you feel seen and heard, but also one that helps you grow and challenges you is invaluable.

AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday morning.
HH: A perfect Saturday morning would start with taking some time for myself with either a yoga class or a walk. Just to get grounded and move my body before my girls got up. Then have some family time in the kitchen and make either pancakes or waffles together!

AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?
HH: That it’s ok to not know all the answers, just starting is the most important piece of the puzzle. It does not have to be perfect out the gate, because if you’re waiting for perfect you’ll be waiting forever. Done is better then perfect.
