Foundress Fridays: Alex Barr, Founder of Dare to Birth Childbirth Classes

Alex Barr is the founder of Dare to Birth Childbirth Classes, which provides a nonjudgemental childbirth class that prepares all families for the realities of birth and postpartum in a educational, fun environment.

“We are trying to disrupt the negative narrative around birth and various interventions by offering a positive, judgment-free, inclusive, and trauma-informed approach. Our classes are offered all around the valley (or virtually) and meant for all types of families birthing in or out of the hospital, whether it’s their first baby or their third our classes can help them prepare!”

AZF: What is your “life motto”?
AB: “Wherever you go, go with all your heart.”

AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be an entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path for you?
AB: “I never in a million years expected to become an entrepreneur but then I found my passion in supporting families and jumped in face first! Once I found what I wanted to do and who I wanted to support I struggled to find other companies who were offering the inclusive, nonjudgmental support I felt was needed in the industry. At that point, I had no choice other than to push forward and create my business to give myself the ability to do this full time. Since then it’s been nonstop learning and growing!”

AZF: How do you feel best supported?
AB: “I feel most supported when I’m surrounded by other people going after their own passions, leading their lives hearts first. Community is essential to life and that is especially true as an entrepreneur! Business ownership can be lonely so building up and then leaning on my community, friends, family has been key!”

AZF: What motivates you to keep going admist the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?
AB: “My passion for supporting and educating families is what keeps me going. There is nothing else I would want to be spending my time doing. You couldn’t pay me enough to quit this job!”

AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday morning.
AB: “Endless cups of coffee and a good book.”

AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?
AB: “Keep going, keep pushing, get yourself out of every box you’re trying to put yourself in and continue to stretch, grow, and learn.”

AZF: What makes you most excited about being an entrepreneur?
AB:
“Everyday single day is different. As someone who struggles to slow down it’s exciting to know that my business will always be changing and growing!”
