A typical day in my life includes

working out – personal training or Orangetheory or at the Village! Cooking, cleaning, being creative, being grateful when I’m annoyed; and trying to be as effective as I can; putting my nose to the grindstone as little possible

I was born

in an industrial town in Ohio to two deaf parents who taught me about hard work and having a positive mental attitude

My favorite thing about Arizona

Springtime when it seems it will never get hot again – we can dream can’t we?

I’m listening to

Lizzo – she is amazing. Also Amos Lee, the Avett Brothers, Mumford & Sons.

My family

is funky, funny and diverse in their interests. Larry the Rescue Dog at age 4!

If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be

Lin Manuel Miranda or Chef Jose Andres.

One thing I cannot live without

pasta!

When I was younger, I wanted to be

an entrepreneur – which works out pretty well for me since I get to be one at work every day.

I’m inspired by…

people who work directly with those in need at UMOM (Arizona’s largest program for homeless families). Every day lives are changed there for the better, and I love that people who don’t have to get in there and do the work to serve others.

The one person who motivates me is

my father – as a deaf man born in 1922 his options might have seemed few, but he never felt sorry for himself and he never quit trying to create a better life for his four children. I watched him work three jobs at a time to make sure we had every opportunity and then some. Today, his memory is always present.

If I could change anything in the world, it would be

the news cycle. Our media seems to ignore real issues in favor of the story of the moment.

The perfect day would be

bicycling around a vineyard eating simple foods and drinking wine in the sunshine.

My first job was

digging ditches! Literally digging ditches, or more accurately, trenches for power lines.

My favorite escape

the movies!

My life

is a work in progress where I am constantly learning and making mistakes and trying to get better as a husband/father/leader/person.

I’m currently working on

ways to better tell the story of how helping others in fitness and wellness changes lives.

Always

do your best and be impeccable with your word.

Never

make assumptions and take things personally.

Favorite quote

“Love God with all your heart. Love your neighbor as yourself”, “You can’t always get what you want” and “What you aren’t changing you are choosing.”

Biggest dream

a world where we have eliminated controllable diseases.

My Pet Peeve

people who say they aren’t in good enough shape to start exercising.
