Chart-topping British 80s band,The English Beat, is set to make debut at new Scottsdale live-music venue Livewire on Saturday, January 10, 2015. Livewire, located in the heart of Downtown Scottsdale entertainment district, is Arizona’s newest premiere live music and concert venue. The 14,000 square-foot, two-story, indoor live performance and concert venue developed by Evening Entertainment Group (EEG), the group behind Bottled Blonde, Hi-Fi Kitchen and Cocktails, RnR, Sandbar Bar & Grill and The Mint, will feature all genres of touring artists, bands, up-and-coming local performers, comedians and more, while also acting as multi-use nightlife venue. The sleek, swanky space will feature dramatic design elements, a built-in stage, artist green room, VIP lounge seating, multi-level bar and an open, unobstructed second-story view of the stage.
Hailing from Birmingham, England, The English Beat, led by vocalist Dave Wakeling, are known for their unique mix of ska, pop, reggae, soul and punk rock. The band rushed the music British scene in 1979 with their dance beats and lyrics of love and unity, topping the UK music charts with their remake of Smokey Robinson’s “Tears of a Clown.” During a five-year run, The English Beat released three studio albums and toured the world with artists David Bowie, The Police, REM, The Clash, The Talking Heads, The Pretenders, The Specials and many more. Their first two albums “I Just Can’t Stop It” released in 1980 and “Wha’ppen” released in 1981 both topped the UK’s charts at No. 3, earning UK Gold and Silver status. In February 2003, the band reunited for a UK tour highlighted by a sold-out performance at the Royal Festival Hall in London and continues to tour the world performing The English Beats top hits.
