Description

The Scottsdale Gallery Association (SGA) has announced that its Native Spirit Gold Palette ArtWalk will take place Thursday, Feb. 29 from 6:30-9 p.m. During the event, guests can enjoy live entertainment throughout the Scottsdale Arts District, which stretches along Main St. from Scottsdale Rd. to Goldwater Blvd. and north of Indian School Rd. on Marshall Way to 5th Ave. Many participating SGA members will also be hosting their own themed exhibitions and events within their galleries.

“Our annual Native Spirit Artwalk celebrates the culture, heritage and beauty of Native peoples and their impact on our lives today as depicted by renowned local and international artists,” says Scottsdale Gallery Association President French Thompson. “We invite art enthusiasts and collectors to peruse the many exhibitions that our galleries will be presenting, each which will showcase unique interpretations of the resilient Native spirit.”

Art One Gallery, Inc.

4130 N. Marshall Way

Art One is pleased to present the Maryvale High School Skateboard Show Opening in conjunction with the ArtWalk. This exhibition showcases the works of talented students at this Title 1 high school. Through this longtime collaboration, Maryvale receives an annual grant from the Art One Foundation to help fund this project. The highlight of this show is the skateboards, which are the result of a class project led by art teacher and former Art One artist Chad Knapp. The show will be on display through the end of March.

Gebert Contemporary

7160 E. Main St.

Gebert Contemporary is pleased to present “Diane Silver: Tangled Beauty,” which debuts along with the Native Spirit ArtWalk. The exhibition showcases Arizona artist Diane Silver’s paintings, which stimulate memories and evoke a closer relationship with nature through her interplay of beauty and impermanence as well as the balance she creates between chaos and structure through color, shape and texture. Silver will be present at the reception; the exhibition will remain on view through Thursday, March 28.

On the Edge Gallery

7045 E. Main St.

On the Edge highlights three artists during this ArtWalk — Ceramic Sculpture artist Paulette Galop, David Knorr, who specializes in ceramics and wood, and Dean Grissom, who only uses wood, wood burning and India inks to create his representations of Native American baskets. Each of the artists will be in-gallery to meet and greet with guests and discuss their artistic inspiration and processes.

Paul Scott Gallery/Paul Scott Exhibitions

7103 E. Main St./ 7117 E. Main St.

On the evening of the ArtWalk, Paul Scott Gallery unveils “Scene & Imagined,” an exhibition by internationally known artist David FeBland. On view at Paul Scott Exhibitions, “Scene & Imagined” refers to and represents the result of FeBland’s unique artistic process, which begins with observations of everyday comings and goings amongst humanity as it passes in public spaces. Not simply transcriptions of these observations, however, there is quite a bit of imagination incorporated into the development of each piece. This leaves the viewer to answer the question of what was seen, or rather what the scene actually was, and what was imagined.

The Legacy Gallery

7178 E. Main St.

The Legacy Gallery is pleased to partner with Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West to present a special event curated for Western art collectors. The weekend following the ArtWalk, The Legacy Gallery and Western Spirit present Western Horizons, a two-day auction and art-centric event.

Wilde Meyer Gallery

4142 N. Marshall Way

Wilde Meyer Gallery presents “Western Perceptions and Interpretations,” which features Western-inspired art by a variety of artists including Jim Nelson, Sherri Belassen and Dara Daniel. The gallery will also host a reception during the event.

The Scottsdale Gallery Association’s weekly ArtWalk, held most every Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. in partnership with the city of Scottsdale, highlights the finest art in Scottsdale featured throughout more than 30 galleries and two museums — Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West. In addition, the SGA’s Gold Palette ArtWalks, with multiple events throughout the year, feature extended hours, a dedicated theme and specialty activities including entertainment, refreshments, demonstrations and more.
