Description

The Scottsdale Gallery Association and its participating members are pleased to present the Western Week-themed Gold Palette ArtWalk on Thursday, Feb 1. Taking place throughout the Scottsdale Arts District from 6:30-9 p.m., the event helps to kick-start Western Week and honor the spirit of Scottsdale’s Western roots through various artistic representations.

During the event, guests are invited to peruse the SCA member galleries, many of which will host themed happenings and artistic showcases. Attendees can also enjoy Western-themed entertainment as they stroll along the Scottsdale Arts District — along Main St. from Scottsdale Rd. to Goldwater Blvd. and north of Indian School Rd. on Marshall Way to 5th Ave.

“We love to honor Western Week and our city’s rich roots through our Western Week-themed Gold Palette ArtWalk,” says Scottsdale Gallery Association President French Thompson. “Our galleries represent so many local, national and even international artists that use the Western culture and spirit as inspiration for their art — much of which will be on display for art enthusiasts and collectors to enjoy during the event.”

Participating SGA member galleries that are featuring dedicated Western Week-themed events during the ArtWalk include:

Altamira Fine Art

7038 E. Main St.

Altamira is pleased to present an exhibition of works by tonalist and landscape artist Jared Sanders who travels the West for inspiration. His masterful handling of paint allows him to portray the subtle grace of a small Utah farmhouse at dawn, a vast Montana pasture in early spring or a hundred-year-old Colorado barn. Sanders’ reverence for the everyday contemporary West is clearly evident in his work.

Art One Gallery, Inc.
4130 N. Marshall Way

During this special after-hours Western Week event, Art One hosts a live painting demonstration from local Arizona artist Coleman Charters, who works with paper collage and acrylics to create modern Western-themed paintings. Along with Charters’ works, guests are encouraged to explore Art One’s collection of more than 60 student artists and local Arizona artists.

Gebert Contemporary

7160 E. Main St.

Gebert Contemporary presents paintings and sculptures by Arizona’s John Randall Nelson. His exhibition “John Randall Nelson: When Willie Went West,” exemplifies the artist’s style that is at once primitive, playful and very familiar. Nelson is known for painting central images among layers of symbols and texts that hint at stories or memories and contributing high-visibility sculptures to local landscapes (such as Scottsdale’s “One-Eyed Jack”). He will be in attendance for a meet and greet during the event.

On the Edge

7045 E. Main St.

Guests are encouraged to embrace the beauty of the Wild West as On the Edge Gallery celebrates the region, its art and its artists including Blair C. Dworkin, who revels in the joy of creating bronze sculptures while connecting with horses, Julie Gilbert, who designs and creates jewelry masterpieces, and Lynn Thrower, who combines her passion for colors and textures with her affinity for using skulls to create her unique pieces.

Paul Scott Gallery

7103 E. Main St.

During the ArtWalk, Paul Scott Gallery will be featuring new works by Montana-based artist Cyrus Walker whose works reflect and manipulate mass-produced dime novels and comic books that influenced the themes of the West. Carefully balancing the mythology and preservation of the Western art genre, Walker uses classic ideas and commercial style to capture and manipulate the “Imagined West.”

Pavilion Fine Arts Gallery

7034 E. Main St.

Pavilion Fine Arts Gallery is honored to host local artists Jon Wendell and Curtis Patchin during the Western Week Gold Palette ArtWalk. Known for his ability to capture different views of mother nature and wildlife including natural contemporary abstract pieces, Jon Wendell will be showcasing his Western artworks including the local wild horses from Salt River and select Arizona landscapes. Guests can also meet local artist Curtis Patchin as he describes his process to create amazing acrylic western landscapes on metal. Guests are invited to enjoy beverages and treats as they meet and greet with the artists.

The Signature Gallery

7177 E. Main St.

The Signature Gallery is please to feature premier Western artist Robert Hagan, who will debut a new collection of his Cowboy-inspired Americana oil paintings. Hagan, who hails from Murwillumbah, New South Wales in Australia, has dedicated more than 30 years to perfecting his techniques. Hagan’s work reflects a rich tapestry of experiences. His profound love for the American West was ignited during his stay in the United States, where he was commissioned to paint poignant scenes from the prestigious America's Cup. In addition to meeting Hagen during the event, guests are invited to enjoy live music, delectable appetizers and an ambiance resonating with the unique culture that can only be found in the American West.

Wilde Meyer Gallery

4142 N. Marshall Way

In honor of Western Week, Wilde Meyer Gallery presents its newest exhibition: “Western Perceptions and Interpretations” with a reception during the ArtWalk. The show features Western-inspired art by a variety of artists including Jim Nelson, Sherri Belassen and Dara Daniel.
