Park West, located at 9744 W. Northern Ave., has partnered with the city of Peoria Arts and Culture Department to further support and encourage the development of the arts. The department is currently hosting a call for artists to create art that will cover and beautify traffic signal boxes. Park West will specifically be choosing three artists for placement at the open-air lifestyle center, further giving local artists an opportunity to develop the public art experience.
“We enjoy partnering with the city of Peoria through a number of important and valuable efforts that better our city and promote and connect our residents,” says Kelly Price, Park West’s business development manager. “Art is already a significant aspect of our center and we are excited about yet another opportunity to support local artists and provide them with a platform through which they can display their masterpieces.”
The focus of the project is to bring art to otherwise utilitarian surfaces and provide artists with an opportunity to develop the public art experience. Artists can submit up to two designs for consideration. Selected artist designs will be printed on vinyl and wrapped around the utility boxes by a third0party design fabricator.
This call for submissions is open to artists, illustrators, designers, students and otherwise creative community members residing in the Peoria area. Art can be in any medium so long as the final artwork can be translated and digitally reproduced on a two-dimensional vinyl wrap.
Up to 15 artists will be chosen for this round for art wraps, which will be installed in January 2024 on signal boxes located throughout the city of Peoria. Selected artists will receive a $350 honorarium.
Park West will select three additional winners for display at the center. Submission deadline is Monday, Dec. 4.
