(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.) This September make plans to join GateWay Community College for its biggest night of fundraising. The 8th Annual Runway to Success is set to take place on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m.

Held at The Clayton, in downtown Scottsdale, the annual event plays a pivotal role in generating vital funds for students. The funds raised will support programs, provide scholarships, and ensure student success and retention.

Hosted by Event Chair Lisa Andrus, and emceed by Valley personality Carey Pena, the evening includes a silent auction and dinner, all while GateWay students take the stage. In their own words, they share how GateWay helped turn their dreams into reality.

For over 55 years, GateWay Community College has been helping students find success through education and workforce training. GateWay is a proud Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) where over half of the student population identifies as Hispanic/Latinx. Catering to the non-traditional student, GateWay offers over 160 degrees and certificates that fit students’ interests, passions, and schedule.

“We hope everyone will join us on Friday, September 29th as we raise funds to help develop the workforce of tomorrow and support students at GateWay Community College,” said Ann Blatté, GateWay Community College Development Director. “Our students’ stories serve as a testament to their remarkable journeys and the professional achievements they’ve gained through their education at GateWay.”

GateWay prepares more than 1,500 graduates to enter the workforce each year and boasts an economic impact of $85 million. Its nursing, healthcare, apprenticeship,

and trades programs are among the highest paying jobs without a four-year degree. GateWay’s nursing graduates produce an annual economic impact of $30 million.

Alumni, Robbie Mathews-Pierce, took full advantage of all that GateWay had to offer. Like many students, Mathews-Pierce was looking to begin a new career but lacked the resources to complete a degree the traditional route.

“I would not be where I am today, if it weren’t for GateWay Community College,” said Mathews-Pierce. “They gave me the hands-on training, top-notch schooling, and the real-world experience I needed. There were many scholarship and grant opportunities along the way, so I didn’t need to take out student loans or accumulate student debt to attain this degree. I am forever grateful for this incredible resource.”

By beginning her education at GateWay, Mathews-Pierce obtained her Associate in Applied Science in Radiologic Technology while simultaneously completing her bachelor’s degree at Grand Canyon University. Today, the mother of two, is working as a Radiologic Technologist at HonorHealth Deer Valley Medical Center.

Slated to be the gala of the season, Runway to Success promises an electrifying atmosphere, heartfelt student testimonials, and underscores the need to continue fostering educational support to prepare tomorrow’s workforce.
