Description

Join us at the Heard Museum on Sunday, April 30, for a day of activities designed with our keiki (children) in mind. Author and artist, Shar Tuiasoa, will be on-site doing readings and signings of her book, Punky Aloha, and helping visitors with a paint-by-number mural designed especially for the day. Throughout the day, guests will have the opportunity to see Nā Maoli o Nā Moku, Kaimikahu Hale O Hula and Hālau Ho’okahi I Ka Hula dance in Steele Auditorium. Hālau Ho’okahi I Ka Hula will also be giving hula lessons at 12:30 p.m. in the Monte Vista Room. Makamae Sniffen is flying in from Honolulu especially for Lei Day to teach ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i (Hawaiian) through storytelling. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to learn with her and color your own version of one of her illustrations! Make sure to also pack your appetite, as the Heard Museum Café and Coffee Cantina will both be open, and Emerson’s Frybread, 10th Island Shave Ice, Pacific Rim & Sushi, and Wiki-licious Malasadas will all be serving up their specialties for the duration of the event. Community partners contributing to the event include Na Leo O Ke Kai Canoe Club, who will be sharing about their keiki (children’s) team and the sport of canoe racing. Guests will also have the opportunity play Hawaiian games, make their own paper or real flower lei, stamp tapa designs onto a postcard, participate in guided family tours of He‘e Nalu: The Art and Legacy of Hawaiian Surfing and more! Bring your ohana (family) for a memorable and exciting day at the Heard Museum!
