Audiences who found TheaterWorks’ 2017 production of Frankenstein electrifying will find themselves haunted by Producing Artistic Director Chris Hamby’s production of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.
The adaption by Jeffrey Hatcher takes a unique approach to telling the story, told by Robert Louis Stevenson in his 1886 classic penny dreadful novella.
Multiple Hydes are portrayed by members of the cast in this new and shocking version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of depravity, lust, love and horror. On the fog-bound streets of Victorian-era London, Henry Jekyll’s experiments with exotic “powders and tinctures” have brought forth his other self—Edward Hyde, a sensualist and villain free to commit the sins Jekyll is too civilized to comprehend. When Hyde meets a woman who stirs his interest, Jekyll fears for her life and decides to end his experiments. But Hyde has other ideas, and so the two sides battle.
The production, which features a cast of some of the Valley’s finest talent, also features an original score by cellist Wesley Skinner who recently won an Arizoni Award for his original music composition featured in last season’s Frankenstein.
