Description

According to Arizona State Historian Marshall Trimble, “If Arizona had a Mount Rushmore the men on it would be Ernest McFarland, Carl Hayden, Barry Goldwater and John McCain."

Join author Gary L. Stuart for a reception and book signing for "Call Him Mac: Ernest W. McFarland - The Arizona Years."  The unprecedented career of Ernest W. McFarland - Senator, Senate Majority Leader, Arizona Governor, Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court, successful businessman and a Father of the GI Bill —is well documented. Less well known is his life as a family man, county lawyer, rural judge, visionary, and the story behind his unlikely rise from Oklahoma farm boy to winning the Triple Crown of Arizona politics.

In "Call Him Mac," Stuart renders a nuanced portrait of a young, ambitious, restless, and likeable man on the verge of becoming a political force on his way to the highest levels of governance in Arizona and America. His enormous political successes were answers to how he dealt with threats to his own life, the tragic loss of his first wife and three children, and a political loss in 1952 that no one saw coming.

In Room 544 and the adjoining patio at the new ASU/Beus Center for Law & Society in Downtown Phoenix. The special event will feature a presentation by the author, hors d'oeuvres and refreshments. Free to the Public. Space is limited. For more information or to RSVP, call/text (480) 721-3629. Reserved parking will be available for a fee (follow event signage).

"Call Him Mac" is available from the U. of A. Press and on Amazon.com. In bookstores nationwide on October 16.
