Description

We are thrilled to announce that thanks to a generous donation from the Steele Foundation, Phoenix Art Museum will be offering free admission to kids and teens 17 years and under from July 1 to September 30, 2018

The program, known as PhxArt Open for Kids, presented by the Steele Foundation, provides free youth admission during normal admission hours, as well as free admission during voluntary-donation times to special-engagement exhibitions, which normally include a $5 ticket charge. Help us spread the word to parents, caregivers, and educators throughout Arizona: a visit to Phoenix Art Museum is the perfect solution to keep children and teens engaged over the summer! Adults and kids alike can enjoy access to our featured summer exhibitions including:

To Be Thirteen: Photographs and Videos by Betsy SchneiderOf special relevance to kids and teens is this exhibition, centered around those now coming of age in a tumultuous social and political climate. On view through October 14, 2018 in the Norton Family Photography Gallery at Phoenix Art Museum, this exhibition chronicles the lives of 250 13-year olds across the country through photography and video, and demonstrates how distinctly the age of 13 can appear on different people while highlighting the similarities that every young person experiences as they transition from childhood to adolescence.

In the Company of WomenOn the heels of the #MeToo movement and other contemporary phenomena prompting conversations about gender inequality, Phoenix Art Museum presents In the Company of Women: Women Artists from the Collection, featuring nearly 50 twentieth- and 21st-century artworks from the Museum’s holdings, entirely by women artists. With works by Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keeffe, Faith Ringgold, Erica Deeman, Daniela Rossell, Cindy Sherman, Marguerite Zorach, and many others in an array of styles and media, this exhibition invites visitors to see these objects in a new light, questioning our perspective on what we consider great art, and why. This highly-anticipated exhibition, opening Saturday, July 7, has a short run (only 5 weeks), so we encourage everyone to visit as soon as possible!

Moonage Virtual RealitySwap those video games for this cutting-edge exhibition, showcasing a suite of films celebrating the music, fashion and style of three legendary figures: Andy Warhol, who helped define the Pop Art movement of the late 1960s; David Bowie, whose glam-rock music transformed pop culture in the early ’70s; and Kenny Scharf, whose psychedelic art influenced the ‘80s underground New York art scene. Using an ordinary smartphone inserted into a virtual-reality headset, guests will be able to explore the simulated environments of Moonage Virtual Reality simply by moving their heads. Moonage Virtual Reality opens August 11, 2018.
