Description

Founded in 2014, in one of the least walkable cities in the nation, Museum of Walking (MoW) is the only museum in the United States dedicated to the practice of walking as an art form. MoW will host an inaugural fundraising event, theWALK, on Saturday, March 18, 2017, in Phoenix, Arizona, at the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area (RSHRA), a former landfill now a 600-acre park along the historic Salt River, lush with riparian vegetation.

With the goal of gathering one thousand community members, theWALK asks participants to disconnect from technology in order to reconnect with each other and move with the landscape in a mindful way. theWALK leads us from the poetic to the political, the mundane to the ceremonial, and promotes a way of listening to the world. Located less than two miles from downtown Phoenix, the RSHRA is a gateway to a lush Sonoran habitat occupied by over 200 species of birds and other wildlife—beavers, muskrats, coyotes, jackrabbits, cottontails, and javelinas.

Proceeds generated by theWALK benefit Museum of Walking  exhibitions, research, artist-led mindful walks, visiting artists, and Native American Connections Phoenix Indian School Legacy Project.
