5 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Exercise

The hardest part of working out is getting yourself to the gym.  So how do you get yourself off the couch and into your workout shoes?  Sometimes all it takes is some extra motivation.   Next time you’re struggling to find the time or energy for working out, try some of the following motivation tips.  You will be in the gym burning off calories in no time!

1. Step Outside!

It can get boring real fast to run in the same place on an elliptical for an hour.  Instead, put in some head phones and try running or walking outdoors.  The change in scenery as you run to different places will refresh and distract you, allowing you to run for a longer amount of time.

2. Buddy Up

Find a partner with similar goals.  Then, form a training schedule.  If you know someone else is depending on you to be there, you’re more likely to follow through.

3. Motivational Pictures and Words

Whether you are looking to shed a few unwanted pounds or are looking to have a more toned stomach, motivational pictures and words scattered throughout the house as reminders will make it hard for you to forget to work out.  Try writing a message on your mirror saying, “Do 50 sit ups before you leave for work!”

4. Publicly Commit

If you tell all your friends you will be running a marathon in March, odds are you’re more likely to want to stick with your goal.  This will make you publicly accountable every time you slack off.

5. Make It Fun

Nobody want to do something everyday that isn’t fun!  Try listening to fun new workout music or sign up for a Zumba class.  If you look at your daily workout as something to look forward to rather than a drag, you will find yourself wanting to workout!
