A typical day in my life includes… I am a live-in nanny, so most mornings, I wake up the boys and get them ready for school. Afterward, I come back home and get started on my schoolwork. When I finish that day’s assignments, I formulate, package, and ship out products for Loopin’ Locs. I like to squeeze in a Zoom yoga class with any remaining time in the day before dinner!
I was born… in Phoenix, Arizona
My favorite thing about Arizona…is the mountains and sunsets. I love to go on a nice hike right before sundown.
I’m listening to… anything Jhene Aiko!
My family… is extremely supportive, and I want to do everything in my power to make them proud.
If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be… Rihanna, I would want to get to know more about her life story.
One thing I cannot live without… is sweets! I have an incredible sweet tooth and go through phases of eating the same dessert every day for a couple of weeks until I switch to the next sweet thing!
When I was younger, I wanted to be… a Physical Therapist.
I’m inspired by… my mom. She was a single parent and when I was growing up I would see her work three jobs at a time just to provide for us. I aspire to have her work ethic.
The one person who motivates me is… my Gramma. When I find myself slipping, she is always there encouraging me to keep striving.
If I could change anything in the world, it would be…providing better care for kids in the foster system.
The perfect day would be…relaxing at a resort all day and then going out to a nice dinner in the evening.
My first job was…bagger at a grocery store. Even though it might not be the most glamorous title, I learned so much from that position that will help me to be a well-rounded businesswomen.
My favorite escape…is driving at night in the rain listening to And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going by Jennifer Holiday.
My life… is hectic, but that is how I like it! I am currently a pre-med student at Arizona State University, and I recently applied to the Mayo Clinic’s Echocardiography Program. I spend every Wednesday interning at Hospice of the Valley. I am also a live-in nanny, which is so much fun, I encourage every college student to do it.
I like to try to do at least three yoga sessions a week. And on top of all of that, I decided to start my own business, Loopin’ Locs!
I’m currently working on… growing Loopin’ Locs into a well-known natural hair care line.

Hi! My name is Mayson Heyninck. I am a third-year pre-med student at Arizona State University and the proud founder of Loopin’ Locs. Loopin’ Locs is a new Black-owned natural hair care line that is vegan, cruelty-free, and never contains any sulfates, silicones, or parabens.
I started Loopin’ Locs as a way to encourage more women to feel confident wearing their natural hair.
