Title: Interventional Pain and Spine Specialist

Married/Single: Married

City you live in: Phoenix, AZ

A typical day in my life includes… I wake up around 5:30AM with a double shot espresso and then go to work out at F45 or go for a run/hike. Afterwards I head into the office about 7:30AM where I start my day seeing patients and/or doing procedures/surgeries. I typically finish about 5:00PM, then head home where I enjoy dinner with my wife and unwind with a good TV show or hobby. I’m in bed around 9:30PM, ready to do it all again the next morning.

I was born… at UofA University Medical Center in Tucson, AZ where 30 years later I went on to complete my residency in Anesthesiology with a surgical internship, followed by a fellowship in Chronic Pain.

My favorite thing about Arizona… the desert, the weather, and the endless number of things to do. Whenever I leave for work or vacation purposes, I am always happy to come back to the place I call home.

I’m listening to… the Huberman lab podcast. Andrew Huberman is a Ph.D. neuroscientist and tenured professor in the department of neurobiology at Stanford School of Medicine. He discusses neuroscience and the interaction between our brain and organs of our body and how it controls our perceptions, our behaviors, and our health.

My family… friends, and faith are my foundation and what drive me day in and out.

If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be… with good family and friends.

One thing I cannot live without… my wife. She makes me a better man and feel fortunate to be married to her.

When I was younger, I wanted to be… an architect. I have always enjoyed the creative aspect of architecture, and I have found a similar creative process involved for problem solving in interventional pain medicine almost every day.

I’m inspired by… the countless mentors who have taught me and encouraged me to be where I am today. I am excited to continue this legacy and mentor the next generation of aspiring pain physicians.

The one person who motivates me is… my father. He is one of the reasons I am so passionate about medicine and he has motivated me to want to help patients, specifically in the field of chronic pain “get back into life”.

If I could change anything in the world, it would be… always choosing to spread kindness and avoiding complacency.

The perfect day would be… with the people I love exploring a new city or culture.

My first job was… as a lifeguard for the City of Scottsdale at McDowell Mountain Ranch Aquatic Center.

My favorite escape… is a long run or hike with some great music.

My life… is fulfilling! Helping patients regain a quality and functionality of life from chronic pain is very rewarding.

I’m currently working on… continuing my licensure in the field of aviation. I currently have my private pilots license and have my visual flight rules (VFR) certificate. I am now working towards obtaining my instrument flight rules (IFR) certificate.

Always… live in the moment. It’s easy to get caught up on goals and/or aspirations and miss out on where you are now.

Never… treat someone like you would want to be treated. We all are fighting our own battles and a little bit of kindness and respect can be what someone needs to make it through.

Favorite Quote… “Be as you wish to seem.” – Socrates

Biggest Dream… to be a difference maker in the lives of my patients, colleagues, and friends/family.

My Pet Peeve(s)… not being on time.

Bio on yourself/company: The Pain Center of Arizona has been leading the field of Interventional Pain and Spine in The Valley since 2002, and I am excited to be a part of this continually innovative practice. Pain Management as a specialty has progressed from medication management and steroid injections to now include structural and mechanical innovations so that patients can truly “get back into life.”
