You’d be hard-pressed to find two artists as dedicated to the music they love as Arizona’s minimal techno enthusiasts Juheun (AKA Tranzit) and Michelle Sparks, and when you listen to “Lobe”, their first collaboration and Sparks’ debut as a producer, you can get a sense of both their devotion to the classic sound and their desire to push its boundaries.
For Sparks, this stunning debut represents a promising step forward. After years developing her sound behind the decks, she shows that she can translate her penchant for integrating dark techno sounds with groovier tech house beats from the DJ booth into success in the studio. A notoriously hard worker, you can be sure that her success here will only motivate her to continue developing and perfecting her unique sound.
With his third original production, Juheun continues to establish himself as a talented and versatile producer, showing a willingness to embrace a deeper and darker sound and reminding us that he can drop a funky beat with the best of them, all the while maintaining the mature attention to detail for which he has become known.

Side-A of “Lobe” showcases Juheun and Sparks’ aptitude for creating a truly sinister sound. It is a dark, stop-and-go adventure for the mind, body and ears that will no doubt have listeners moving at clubs in the late hours of the night and then running home for a few more listens trying to get a grasp of all the subtleties that make it great. A heavy driving bass-line guides you through a forest of haunting vocals, shadowy sounds, only to abandon you during suspenseful breaks and ominous builds. Of course, those absences make it only that much more gratifying when it rejoins you on hard-hitting drops that will have you wanting for another trip.
Think of side-B as a sort of Scooby Doo to side-A’s The Shining. On this mix, Juheun and Sparks take a step back from the depths, picking up the pace a bit from the dark minimal techno sound of the original mix to hit the listener with groovier blend of minimal and tech house. This one will send chills down your spine with a spooky bass-line and a barrage of eerie sounds that work perfectly with a funky beat that will make you want to dance your ass off.
