Cocktail Wars Brings a Bartender Showdown to Downtown Phoenix

Phoenix is getting a taste of Cocktail Wars as Renaissance Hotels brings the creativity and craftsmanship of the new mixology competition series to life with a local bartender showdown.

On August 25, the Renaissance Day of Discovery will take over Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel, where bartenders from Renaissance Phoenix Downtown and Renaissance Phoenix Glendale will compete in celebration of the launch. The event is open to the public and will feature cocktails inspired by Cocktail Wars, reimagined with local flavors and influences. Every attendee will also receive a gift bag.

Local drag queen, entertainer and Miss Phoenix Pride 2026 Savana Stephens will serve as emcee, keeping the competition lively as guests watch the bartenders battle it out for bragging rights. Attendees will also have a say in the outcome, voting for the People’s Choice Award alongside a panel of local judges.

Judges include Edson Madrigal, owner of Centrico Mexican Cocina; Aaron Davies, owner of Cornish Pasty’s Downtown Phoenix location; and Ross Simon and Aaron DeFeo, owners of Bitter & Twisted and Little Ritual. Winners will be announced for both the judges’ choice and People’s Choice awards.

Of course, no cocktail showdown would be complete without a little entertainment and plenty of things to snack on between sips. DJ Michael Hooker will provide the soundtrack, while Elixir Photobooth and a caricature artist will offer additional diversions.

Vendors will also add to the festivities, including Treats Con Amor and Buzz Crumble & Sizzle for snacks and sweets. Guests can browse Alis Volta Permanent Jewelry & Piercing and Tatum & Tulip Vintage Clothing & Jewelry, while local beverage vendors AZ Distilling from Mesa, Catalyst Crafted Ales from Tempe and Carefree Spirits Distillery from Cave Creek will showcase Arizona-made offerings.
