7 Editors Fall Fashion Week Must Haves

An amusing and endearing thing happened the other day while in the checkout line at the grocery store. I had somehow misplaced my copy of Harpers Bazaar so while Jennifer Aniston stared me in the face from across the magazine holder I thought, why not, I’ll just grab another one. So on to the conveyor belt it went. And the very darling male checker who I guessed to be about nineteen or so said “man that is thick!” I of course feeling compelled to explain…”September is always the thickest month since it kicks off the Fall season”. His response: “is fashion week in September?” Then of course like a complete fashion geek I mention that Spring Fashion week used to be in October but now it’s in September…yeah Diane, like he really wanted to know that…

So as we fashion obsessed girls and guys wait patiently for the upcoming shows and another year of Fashion’s Night Out on September 10, I can’t help but reminisce about my own NYC days backstage and recalling how different the landscape was before the internet and blogging took over not only our mindsets, but front row seating as well.

Remember when it used to be about buyers, magazine editors and stylists? Now the Real Housewives of NYC are all duking it out with bloggers over the front and center rows…hmmm

But back to you dear readers, if you are looking for the hot picks that editors will be wearing the Fashion Week, check out these picks edited from Refinery 29.

Kristina O’Neill, Executive Editor, Harper’s Bazaar

“Right now, my can’t-live-without-it-item is my iPad! It has changed my life. I also have my eye on a canvas with leather trim Ferragamo case that will be perfect for Fashion Week.”

Jenny Kang, Fashion Market Editor, Lucky Magazine

“For me, it’s this Giles dress from the Fall 2010 show…its golden hue and scalloped cloud-like edges make me instantly happy. An essential pick-me-up for when I’m feeling that familiar mid-Fashion-Week-crash.”

Taylor Tomasi Hill, Style & Accessories Director, Marie Claire

“Since I do every city during Fashion Week, I am always looking for clothes that I can wear multiple times, and I’m in love with the hand-woven friendship bracelets by Frieda and Nellie that are inlayed with vintage rhinestones. They are a great way to give some interest to a simpler outfit and bring the carefree attitude of summer right into the fall.”

Sarah Cristobal, Senior Fashion Editor, Stylelist.com

These Bottega Veneta boots will make my feet happy when it’s time to put the sandals away. I love the color and how sweet they’ll look paired with jeans or a skirt with tights. Plus, the sizable heel will give me the extra height I need so I won’t be in the weeds when it comes to circumventing models during Fashion Week.

Casey Kettleson, Director of Editorial Strategy, Styledon.com

“I use Fashion Week as an excuse to wear some of the more over-the-top sample sale finds I collect throughout the season. But one of my absolute must-haves for the week is a truly great bag. Khirma Eliazov’s Oversized Cha-Cha bag in black python has been an obsession of mine for a while. Roomy enough for my notebooks, pens, iPhone, wallet, etc, and it’s also just the sickest bag ever in black python.

Laurel Pantin, Beauty Assistant, Teen Vogue

“Mine is definitely my A.P.C trench—I’m kind of never without it. Tons of pockets, and it’s that perfect thickness where it’s warm without being stuffy or too heavy.

Susan Cernek, Executive Online Editor, glamour.com

“I’m craving anything with tassels, be it Fendi pumps, Givenchy booties, or a J. Crew necklace. I may just have to DIY myself something. I’m also after a Mulberry school-girl satchel to get my Alexa Chung on.”
