Store Closing Sales

It’s no secret this past holiday shopping season was not a prosperous one for the retail stores. In fact the current recession is taking a toll on most of us in some way or another. But there is one upside to a dwindling economy – the store closing sales!

Yes, it is very sad that these stores, which some of us have been going to since we were kids, will be going out of business. So let’s give them some extra earnings before they shut their doors and shop around one last time.

Valley Girl has gathered a list of stores on the outs for you to spend your holiday gift money:

  • Mervyn’s LLC: filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July and is liquidating all stores nationwide. Arizona Locations: Check out Mervyns.com for over 13 locations in Arizona.
  • Linens ‘n Things: filed for bankruptcy and is implementing liquidation sales. It will soon close its 12 Arizona stores. Arizona Locations: See linensnthings.com for many locations.
  • Steve and Barry’s: filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is liquidating stores. Arizona Location: 7611 West Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ
  • Circuit City Stores Inc.: closing over 150 stores nationwide but will continue to operate through Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Locations: 4380 North Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ
  • KB Toys: filed for bankruptcy and is implementing liquidation sales. Arizona Locations: See locator.mykbtoysstore.com for many locations.
  • Shoe Pavilion Inc.: filed for bankruptcy and will close its 15 stores in Arizona. Arizona Locations: see shoepavilion.com
  • Brendan Diamonds: is holding liquidation sales at its five Valley locations but is not officially going out of business.
  • Posh Boutique: will be closing by May. Currently everything is 75 percent off and increasing up until closing. Location: 6536 E Tanque Verde Rd., Tucson, AZ 85715 
  • Borders Bookstore on Mill Ave.: this location will close sometime this month because of lingering sales. Location: 699 S. Mill Ave., Tempe, AZ

Also, E4 dance club in Old Town has just announced it will be shutting its doors indefinitely. Some saw it coming after their New Year’s Eve party was cancelled earlier this week. Location: 4282 N. Drinkwater Blvd., Scottsdale.

***On a lighter note, Starbucks is closing around 600 stores nationwide but is only closing one location in Arizona!
