A designer handbag, a framed desert landscape and a dining table with at least one good dinner party left in it might look like ordinary thrift-store finds. At Daisy’s Rescued Goods, they are also food, medical care and a safe place to land for homeless cats and dogs.
The two boutiques benefit Foothills Animal Rescue, with locations in North Scottsdale and downtown Carefree. Both offer the thrill of the hunt and a reason to feel good about bringing home something unexpected.
The Fun Is in the Find
“Every time someone shops, donates or volunteers, they’re helping us give a pet the care it needs and a better shot at finding a home,” said Lana Shapiro, chief advancement officer for Foothills Animal Rescue.
In 2025, Daisy’s generated more than $1 million in sales. That same year, Foothills Animal Rescue cared for 1,067 animals, a 34 percent increase from the year before. One visit might turn up a designer jacket, a stack of art books or a lamp destined for a living room. The next could bring patio furniture, vintage jewelry or an object that raises two questions: What is it, and why do you suddenly need it?
Daisy’s has the eye of a boutique but keeps the luck-of-the-draw energy that makes secondhand shopping addictive. There is no algorithm and no guarantee the perfect find will still be there tomorrow. Sometimes, you simply have to commit to the brass flamingo.
Two Stores, One Mission
The Scottsdale shop opened in 2013 and carries clothing, shoes, handbags, designer labels, furniture, books, sporting goods, home décor and pet supplies. The Carefree boutique moved into its downtown location in 2025, gaining more space, visibility and a stronger downtown connection.
The move also brought a new name, changing from Foothills Animal Rescue Resale Boutique to Daisy’s Rescued Goods. All proceeds from the boutiques benefit Foothills Animal Rescue.
“Daisy’s Rescued Goods represents more than just a change in name and location,” said Shannon Valenzuela, CEO of Foothills Animal Rescue. “It reflects our growing commitment to being a vibrant part of the community while supporting the critical work we do every day for animals in need.”
A Community Effort
Foothills Animal Rescue began in 1995 as a foster-based group in Cave Creek. Today, it operates the Brynne Smith Memorial Campus and Adoption Center at 10197 E. Bell Road in Scottsdale, where it rescues, cares for and finds homes for cats and dogs.
Daisy’s gives neighbors a way to support that work. Not everyone can adopt or foster, but almost anyone can donate a chair, clear out a closet, volunteer for a shift or shop for something useful. A donated sofa can help cover veterinary treatment. A rack of dresses can help keep animals fed. A few volunteer hours can help move more pieces from the donation room to the sales floor.
