Salon Quality Blow Out

Whether you have wildly curly, out of control frizzy or just want your hair to look like you just came from the hair salon, here is your hair control key:

The Formula:

While heat is sometimes the only solution to tame our hair, it is also very damaging. So before you bring on the heat, apply some protecting leave-in conditioner to your wet hair. Valley Girl recommends Wella Color Preserve. This product not only protects your hair from heat damage, it preserves up to 75 percent more hair color and conditions it with moisture-intense vitamin B5. Wella products can be purchased at the amazing Beauty Bar Salon in Scottsdale.

The Brush:

Don’t just use any old brush when performing your morning blow out, make sure you are using a round ionic thermal brush. Your hair stylist wasn’t just using this to curl the ends of your hair, this must-have beauty product actually spreads the hair evenly and holds heat longer so hair dries faster. Pick up a thermal brush at your nearest beauty supply, Walgreen’s or select grocery stores. Valley Girl recommends buying from your nearest Sally’s Beauty Supply for more of a selection, but any ionic thermal brush will do. (Choose a thicker brush for larger curls and a thinner brush for tighter curls.)

Tip: Be sure to point the blow dryer directly at the brush while combing through your hair from the scalp to the ends. Give your hair some wave and roll the ends of your hair with the brush as you would do with a curling iron. Then hold and dry for a few seconds and voila! Beautiful big curls.

The Hair Dryer:

The blow dryer can make or break your at-home blow out so choose wisely! This one is not to be purchased at a Target or Walgreen’s. Stop into Sally’s Beauty Supply or your local salon and look for a Tourmaline Ceramic Dryer. Tourmaline ceramic technology minimizes heat stress on hair, static electricity and leaves hair silkier, shinier and more manageable! It also gives off high levels of negative ions to help condition the hair from the inside out, which reduces breakage and brittleness. Valley Girl recommends Hot N’ Silky Professional Tourmaline Ceramic Dryer, which can be found at Sally’s for 49.99 or online for 47.99.

The Syrum
If you want to go above and beyond silky, smooth hair, apply a drop of smoothing syrum after your blow out. This technique adds shine and defines wavy, curly and frizzy hair. Valley Girl recommends Beyond The Zone Straight Shot Straightening Serum for that sleek and anti-frizz look. This product can be found at Sally’s Beauty Supply or online

  1. I just bought that round brush and its great!! It smooths my frizzy hair without having to run my flat iron over it! Thats saves my hair from even more damaging heat! Great brush, im going to pick up that Wella leave in Conditioner too!!

  2. I have a great round brush but I’m definitely going to try the Wella leave-in conditioner. Excellent tips, thanks!

  3. Great tips. It seems like I’m dying my hair every month cuz the color fades quickly. And it’s not like I color my hair at some rinky dink place either…

  4. Hi, I stumbled on your site a number of weeks ago and have ploughed through all the info steadily. I decided to might make my first comment. Not really sure what to say but here goes. Interesting blog. Will call back in a while to hear more of what you have to say.
