Pet financial assistance site MyPetChild looked at Google search trends across a list of 284 dog breeds that are recognized by the American Kennel Club to reveal the most popular dog breeds in major U.S. cities.

Across Arizona’s 12 major cities, the study found that the most searched dog breed was the Cane Corso.

The Cane Corso dog is an Italian breed of Mastiff. Its lineage can be traced back to ancient Roman times, and its Latin name roughly translates to “Bodyguard Dog.” The lifespan of Cane Corsos can range from 9–12 years. These dogs are muscular in frame and are protective of their owner, making them a great family dog.

These loving dogs are not only popular in Arizona, but all over the country.

“Overall, across 328 major U.S. cities, the most searched for dog breed was found to be the Cane Corso, which came out top in 297 of the cities, the equivalent of 91% of cities overall,” says a spokesperson for MyPetChild.

Cane Corsos sometimes have a negative reputation, although they are actually gentle and loyal dogs.

“Unfortunately, this Italian mastiff has garnered somewhat of a negative reputation, and their popularity online might partly be attributed to those looking for a dog that can deter home intruders,” says the spokesperson about Cane Corsos. “In reality, the breed can be very affectionate and gentle, and make for great family pets when properly socialized and handled.”

The second most popular dog searched in six of Arizona’s major cities is the French bulldog. The French bulldog is a result of cross-breeding between toy bulldogs and French Ratters. French bulldogs typically live between 10–12 years.

These dogs are typically very recognizable with their wrinkles and stubby noses, which makes them a very popular breed. In 2022, French bulldogs were the most popular by number of American Kennel Club registrations.

Australian shepherds came in as the third most popular dog breed in Arizona. They were the second most searched dog in five major cities in Arizona. Contrary to their name, these beautiful long-haired ranch dogs originate from California in the 19th century.

Here is a list of the most popular dog breeds in Arizona, according to Google Search:
