Calling all dog dads and moms! If you’re the proud parent of a precious pooch then we want to see you and your fur baby at one of our cute canine casting calls for AZ Foothills annual Dog Days of Summer contest. One handsome hound will take home the title of Top Dog and win $500 cash, a feature in Arizona Foothills Magazine, and mutt-ch more. Here’s how the contest works…
Round 1: Casting Calls
Get ready for some pawesome fun and join at one of our upcoming casting calls to enter your pup into the competition.
Saturday July 9 from 11a – 1p at Scottsdale Quarter – 15037 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85254: Enjoy a pet-themed weekend with kitten adoptions from the Arizona Animal Welfare League, The Secret Life of Pets movie peeks, giveaways, goodies and all the fun of pet-friendly Scottsdale Quarter.
Saturday July 16 from 11a – 1p at Sip Coffee & Beer Garage – 3620 E Indian School Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85018: Attendees can take advantage of food and beverage specials from Sip while enjoying their dog friendly cooled off patio. Complimentary water from Purely Sedona will be on hand as well.
JUST ADDED: Saturday July 23 from 11a – 1p at Sip Coffee & Beer House – 3617 N. Goldwater Blvd., Scottsdale, AZ 85251: $5 mimosas, bloody Mary’s, and screwdrivers will be on deck while aattendees listen to live local music on Sip’s dog friendly misted patio. Scottsdale’s Mayor, Jim Lane will also be in attendance to visit with patrons!
Dogs who enter at a casting call will get a paw up on the competition by receiving a professionally taken photo and start the competition with an automatic bonus of 100 votes! At the casting call pups will be entered into one of three contest categories including…
Best Large Dog – There’s more to love with a big baby! If your mutt is too big to hold, enter them in this category to win AZ Foothills “Large Dog of the Year.”
Best Small Dog – If your nugget can fit in your handbag or is small enough to carry, enter them in this category to win AZ Foothills “Small Dog of the Year.”
Best Dressed Dog – Is your fur baby a fashionista? Show off their best outfit and enter them in this category to win AZFoothills.com “Best Dressed Dog.” Just make sure they come to the casting call dressed to impress.
Round 2: Web Voting
After all entries have been received each pups info and photo will be uploaded to AZFoothills.com where online voting will take place from August 1 – September 9. Friends, family, and fans of Fido can once per day, per e-mail address. Each dog will have his or her very own voting page and unique link that can easily be shared via e-mail, social media, etc.
Round 3: Finale Pawty & Prize
At the end of online voting the five pups with the most votes in each category listed below will move on to the finals. At the Yappy Hour Finale a winner in each category will be chosen by a panel of doggie-loving judges, along with an overall winner, for a total of four winners.
The Dog Days of Summer overall contest winner will take home the title of Arizona Foothills Dog of the Year 2016, receive a pup profile in Arizona Foothills Magazine 2017 Best of Our Valley issue, $500 cash and various other puppy prizes. The winners of Large, Small, and Best Dressed will also take home some sweet swag.

If you can’t make it to one of our casting calls you can still submit your buddy for the contest via online entry (note that online entrants will begin the contest with zero votes, only those who attend a casting call will receive the 100 bonus votes).
To enter a pup for the Dog Days of Summer Contest, e-mail the information below to dogdays@azfoothills.com by July 28, 2016. All submissions must include:
- Dog’s name, age and hometown
- Owner’s full name, e-mail address, and phone number
- An adorable photo of the dog!
