Foodie news roundup for the week of Oct. 23.
The Good Bad Ugly (GBU) Brewing Co. hosts a grand opening party at Westgate Entertainment District on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 5 p.m. to close. During the free event, guests will enjoy a first-look with free, behind-the-scenes GBU brewery tours and plenty of food and drink specials, tasters and freebies.
Super Chunk Sweets & Treats in Old Town Scottsdale has a spooky dessert just in time for Dia de Los Muertos and Halloween. The Flores Para Los Muertos Graveyard Tarts has a skeleton (the folks at Super Chunk call him Bill) eating his way out of his praline and ganache grave. The individual tarts are $5 each.
This Halloween, from 2 p.m. to close, guests can enjoy a buy-one-entrée-get-the-second-half-off offer at all Fired Pie locations to fuel up pre- or post-festivities.
Zuzu at Hotel Valley Ho has unveiled new fall-friendly dishes for dinner, dessert and in the lounge (which serves food until midnight every day). Try the yellowtail hamachi crudo with soy yuzu crunch, Pinnacle Farms organic maktoom dates with chorizo and bacon, or Scottish salmon with spiced butternut squash puree.
Friday, Nov. 3, is National Sandwich Day. At Miracle Mile Deli, all day long on on Nov. 3, buy any sandwich for just $9 (except Jack special and triple decker).
At Ocean Prime Phoenix, celebrate the restaurant’s upcoming  “Ultimate Surf & Turf” dinner at the James Beard House in New York City this December–now. Through Nov. 30, guests can enjoy a featured Ahi Tuna Rossini topped with seared foie gras, caramelized mushrooms, carrots, and Brussels sprout leaves, finished with a truffle reduction for $49.  A Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin wine pairing from the dinner is also available by the glass for a limited time for $29.
El Panzon y Frida in Scottsdale has introduced its newest lunch items to the menu. Try the Tuna Poke Bowl fresh tuna, avocado, sticky rice, edamame, spicy aioli, sunomono and house unagi sauce; the vegetarian Quinoa Cakes  filled with a blend of fresno peppers, pecorino, shiitake, butternut squash, topped with a cherry demi glaze and watercress; the Peppercorn Chicken Ciabatta served with baby arugula, cherry tomatoes, shallots, radish, peppercorn aioli; and the El Panzon Burger is made from 100-percent grass-fed beef, topped with Oaxaca cheese, avocado, fried onion and fresno escabeche.
Press Coffee is bringing its award-winning specialty coffee to the Biltmore neighborhood. The newest café at 24th Street and Camelback on Friday, Oct. 27, will be giving free small cups of drip coffee to guests for three days to celebrate.
In honor of the seventh anniversary of Beckett’s Table, guests are invited to celebrate on Friday, Oct. 27, to Saturday, Oct. 28. Hand-selected by Chef Beckett, guests will enjoy a special three-course anniversary menu (think coconut sheet cake and fresh pappardelle pasta) served either a la carte or pre-fixed.
Available through Oct. 31, cool down with a ghoulish treat from Creamistry (pictured). The limited-time Charcoal Cookies & Scream features classic cookies and cream with a twist (food grade, activated charcoal). Plus, try the Midnight Black Waffle (available as a cone or bowl).
