The third week of October is National Kraut Sandwich Week, and Miracle Mile Deli is celebrating by offering up its famous Straw Sandwich for just $10. Available now through Oct. 23, the dish comes with fries and pickle and features  hot Pastrami, melted Swiss cheese and steamy sauerkraut piled high on the bread of your choosing.
On Oct, 22 at 1 p.m., The Melting Pot of Scottsdale will be teaching the Little Dipper Dessert Decorating Class. Little Dippers (ages 4-10) will learn how to decorate chocolate strawberries for Halloween. They will receive a souvenir kid-size Melting Pot embroidered apron and a paper chef hat to fondue like a pro. The afternoon includes an interactive dessert decorating class and an opportunity to eat the classic chocolate fondue dessert accompanied by an assortment of goodies perfect for dipping. Sierra Bonita Grill is proud to be the first Valley restaurant serving Dog Tag Brewing Legacy Lager, a beer that was created to honor the lives and legacies of military heroes. One hundred percent of Dog Tag Brewing’s profits are donated to the Dog Tag Brewing Foundation, whose mission is to support and enhance Gold Star Family initiatives. To further support the foundation’s initiatives, Sierra Bonita Grill will be donating 50 percent of the purchase price from the sale of each beer to the organization. Guests can enjoy the beer at the restaurant or take it to go for a keepsake. Each can of Legacy Lager will be available for $10.
The new raw bar is now open at The Gladly (pictured). Oysters, crab, shrimp and fish now take residence in the 7-ft. tall bar. From 3 to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, bar dwellers can enjoy half-off pricing for all chalkboard seafood items, $6 cocktail specials and favorite appetizers for a great deal.
The Phoenix Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier will be hosting its second “Afternoon at The Farm – Cultivating Culinarians for the Future” fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (As of press time, there were only 50 tickets left.) Guests will enjoy an afternoon of cuisine (a multi-course, family-style meal in fact) from a line-up of Phoenix’s top chefs in a serene setting at The Farm at South Mountain in Phoenix. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales and donations will go directly to support the Arizona Chapter of Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP), which provides educational scholarships and culinary training to high school students. The price for the event is $150 per person plus tax and fees. Square One Concepts continues to grow this fall with the expansion of Wasted Grain, coming to Tempe and Tucson in October, and Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers coming to Gilbert in November. It will serve up award-winning hand-formed, half-pound burgers of never frozen ground chuck with a vast variety of versions as well as a large collection of beers.

This month marks six years since Chef Justin Beckett, his wife Michelle and friends Katie and Scott Stephens opened favorite Phoenix restaurant, Beckett’s Table.
