Sandbar Mexican Grill opened the doors of its third Valley location in Gilbert this month (the other two outposts are in Chandler and Desert Ridge). With an airy and casual beach theme, an expansive indoor/outdoor component and tacos and frosty sips galore, we’re certain Sandbar is destined to be a new Gilbert-area favorite. Here are three reasons to check it out:
It’s family friendly! The dream of any parent is to be able to sip a margarita while their child plays safely nearby. That is a reality at Sandbar. Half of the restaurant is a colorful and spacious open-air area, with fun surfboard high-top tables and firepits surrounded by cozy couches. And on the perimeter of is a selection of lawn games for all ages: cornhole, giant Connect Four, bar shuffleboard, air hockey and more. So while Mom and Dad take in some apps (the taquitos and calamari are favorites!) the little ones can be working off some energy and working up their appetite. Of course, parents can get in on the games too. Connect Four is more fun with a cocktail in hand, right?
Tacos! Hello! In addition to soups, salads, burritos, sandwiches, burgers and more, Sandbar has a long lineup of tacos. Each plate comes with three tacos–with options like ahi, carnitas, carne asada and more–in addition to black beans and rice. We recommend the taco combo platter in which you choose any three tacos. Seafoodies will adore the salmon tacos topped with a smokey roasted corn salsa and the shrimp tacos with sweet pineapple-mango salsa (pictured above). There are even vegetarian tacos options. Sandbar doesn’t skimp on ingredients, either.
Margaritas? Yes, Please! What’s the point of a taco if you can’t suck down a salt-rimmed margarita by its side? Sandbar whips up a selection of classic margaritas–get them frozen or on the rocks–in flavors that will whisk you away to a sun-soaked shoreline, like watermelon, spicy mango and chipotle pineapple. (These puppies are only $5 during happy hour, which is Monday to Friday from 3 to 7 p.m.) For a tasty kick, the jalapeno margarita is a crowd pleaser, served up with a spicy Tajin rim.
