On Wednesday, August 14, Sassi restaurant in North Scottsdale welcomes the next installment in its well-received Summer Food & Wine Series: Cooking with Summer Vegetables. (So far this season, Chef Nicosia has taught diners how to cook with summer fruit and a great intro into making pasta). This next class will present Arizona’s summer vegetable bounty: heirloom tomatoes, eggplant, squash and herbs. The wine selection of Southern Italy will be explored, including Fiano di Avellino, Etna Rosso and Nero d’Avola. In addition to sampling the foods demonstrated during the class, participants will also enjoy three four-ounce samples of the featured wines. Sassi’s Director Stephen Plunkett will be on hand to teach the wine portion of the program. The next class in the Summer Food & Wine Series takes place Wednesday, Sept. 11. The class is $49 and starts at 6 p.m. To make your reservations for Cooking with Summer Vegetables, visit www.sassi.biz or call 480.502.9095.
