A typical day in my life includes… Making sure all of the morning fires are put out from any overnight emails, kids, significant other, dogs, etc. Drop my daughter at school and off to the office. I’ll indulge in a true-crime podcast on my commute (again, I love great storytelling). Once in work mode,  I’ll take client calls to plan upcoming shoots before I review and approve videos that are off to their new homes on client career pages.  I’ll book travel needed for upcoming shoots and ensure all of my crews know where to be and when. Then.. coffee! I’ll have an Emmy(R) call or two depending on where we are in the event calendar and tackle any incoming requests before leaving (almost too late) for school pick-up, where I fight an angry mob of parents and an unnaturally chaotic herd of children running from the school. Once home, it’s family time sprinkled with email check-in. Perhaps a glass of wine and off to bed, thankful to do it again the next day.

I was born… in a military base in Landstuhl, Germany

My favorite thing about Arizona… mountain sunsets.

I’m listening to… Someone Knows Something true-crime podcast from CBC Broadcast

My family… is EVERYTHING! I have the most amazing parents and two older sisters who mean the world to me. My boyfriend and the children he has brought into my life are my own little corner of heaven. And I know everyone says this, but my two dogs are the cutest you have ever seen.

If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be… Princess Diana

One thing I cannot live without… comfortable pajamas.

When I was younger, I wanted to be… a storm chaser.

I’m inspired by…people overcoming great loss

The one person who motivates me is… There are so many, but at the top of my list would be my parents (I know that’s two people, but they are a true team).

If I could change anything in the world, it would be… the current unrest in our country. Cliche, I know, but it’s genuine.

The perfect day would be… beautiful weather surrounding an afternoon patio brunch with friends and family.

My first job was… retail!

My favorite escape… wine tasting in Sedona.

My life… is perfectly imperfect and I hope to enjoy many more years of it.

I’m currently working on… myself. This past year has given me a lot of time for reflection and as I approach 40, I’m striving to unleash a better version of myself.

Always… have faith. Our lives rarely unfold the way we plan. People don’t always treat us the way we want. We don’t always make the right choices. Be kind to yourself and believe that things will work out the way they should.

Never… give up. Always keep pushing forward. And know that your best is enough.

Favorite Quote…”You don’t drown by falling in the water, you drown by staying there.” I heard this from my colleague, Carol Lynde, and it has always stuck with me.

Biggest Dream… In 25 years, I want a cabin in the mountains where all of the kids and grandkids come for the Holidays. Lots of terrible sweaters, garland and overplayed Holiday music. And cookies, lot’s of cookies.

My Pet Peeve(s)… Pen clickers.. you know who you are.

More About Theresa Maher:
I am the Managing Partner, Head of Operations at Hire Story, a full-service recruitment video production helping organizations enhance their talent brand to better attract candidates.

Basically, we use video to show what it’s really like to work for an organization (employers everywhere are cringing, I know. But, I swear it works). Offering a genuine peek behind the curtain helps candidates find the right company for them, or turn and run when it’s not a good fit. The idea is for that realization to happen before any time is wasted on an application. We achieve this by capturing non-scripted, authentic interviews from current employees and doing what we do best through our storytelling expertise.

I’m also lucky enough to be part of the Emmy ®  organization at both the Local and National Levels. I currently serve on the Executive Committee of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences as the Presidents’ Representative. In this role, I am able to serve as a liaison for the 19 chapters to the National organization and ensure their local voices are heard. At the Chapter level in the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter, I have worn many, many hats. I’m currently wearing my party hat, serving as the Event Committee Chair. I am also the immediate Past President and former Treasurer and Secretary. I found my way to the Board when I was at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at ASU, when I attended meetings as a Student Representative. They haven’t been able to shake me since.

While there have been some trying times in our industry, I am so proud to be affiliated with the Emmy(r) brand as we strive to recognize excellence in our field. Engaging and meaningful storytelling has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember – just ask any teacher who had to move my seat for being a little “too engaging” during class time.
