Bringing your pet along on vacation creates core memories for you and your furry friend, but finding a place to stay with your pet is not always easy. Each month in the U.S., there are 4,800 Google searches on average for “pet-friendly vacation,” pointing to the thousands of Americans looking to explore the world with their four-legged companions.
According to research by the American Pet Products Association (APPA), over 70% of U.S. households owned a pet in 2022, with dogs and cats being the most popular companions. The research also discovered that one in two pet owners (52%) would only stay at an accommodation that allows furry friends.
As pet owners continue to seek out pet-friendly vacations each year, finding which cities offer the most pet-friendly accommodations can be helpful for both you and your pet.
Vacation experts at Family Destinations Guide looked at data from the rental site, Vrbo, within 50 of the most populated cities in the U.S. to discover which cities have the most listings for pet-friendly accommodations and Phoenix, Ariz. placed among the top ten.
Houston, Texas takes first place as the most pet-friendly destination in the U.S. with 478 listings for pet-friendly accommodations. Three other Texan cities also make the top 20, including Dallas with 470 pet-friendly listings, San Antonio with 463 and Austin with 416.
San Diego, Calif. came in third place with 467 pet-friendly accommodation listings. Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Jose also represent The Golden State on the top 20 list with 440, 336 and 250 pet-friendly accommodations, respectively.
Phoenix placed at No. 7 as the only Arizona city on the top 20 list. With 458 listings, Phoenix offers a higher number of pet-friendly accommodations than most larger cities on the list, like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Las Vegas.

You can also enjoy a more outdoorsy holiday exploring mountains, parks, and beaches.”
