Fighting Childhood Obesity-Keep kids active

It is summer time and besides the pool there are not many outdoor activities you can do with the kiddos here in AZ. It is super hot and most kids want to stay indoors watch TV and play video games! Well, I am here to tell you that there are tons of fun activities you can do with your kids to keep them active and moving despite the heat. I was on CBS news recently discussing all of the activities you can do with your kids:

1. Play freeze tag: Playing freeze tag gets their heart rate up. When you freeze have your kids perform a squat, jumping jacks or planks.

2. Tug of war: Tie towels together or if you have a sheet and half of the family on one side and the other half on the other side and play tug of war.

3. Plank competition : Have all the kids perform a plank competition and see who can hold the longest. Winner gets a prize.

Also want to make sure the kids are following a healthy and balanced diet of protein, healthy carbs and fat. It is important that kids be kids but we must also teach them that health and fitness is important ….so these simple and fun activities will help with that!
