CitySkate Returns to CityScape With New Interactive Tree

The Valley’s largest and most visited outdoor ice rink is returning to CityScape on Nov. 23 with a grand opening night, complete with a tree lighting ceremony and more. The family-friendly event will run for six weeks in Downtown Phoenix with a variety of holiday events and activities.

CitySkate is debuting the brand new Unity Tree this year, a 30-foot tensile sculpture with more than 100 interlocking panels. Placed in the middle of the real ice rink, the copper-colored tree will feature thousands of individually programmed LED lights, a rising Phoenix topper and an interactive base where guests can light up different patters and sections of the tree at the press of a button.

A massive real ice rink will be open for skating through Jan. 6 with various holiday happenings throughout, including the Skate it Forward series. Returning for a second year, every Wednesday CitySkate will team up with a local organization to raise funds and awareness for their cause. Guests can skate from 5 to 11 p.m. with $5 of their ticket going back to the featured group of the night.

To officially kick the skating season off, head out on Nov. 23 for a night of professional figure skating, a visit from Santa, a light show and tree lighting. During the day guests can shop till they drop at the Alternative Black Friday Vintage Market where more than 30 local shops will be on site.
