Did you know Apollo 11’s astronauts trained in Flagstaff before taking one giant leap for mankind by stepping foot on the moon? As the 50th anniversary for the lunar landing approaches this month (July 20), Flagstaff’s Aspen Place at The Sawmill is celebrating the occasion with an out-of-this-world block party.

Taking place July 19 from 6 to 9 p.m., the Lunar Legacy Block Party will feature live music from FoxyKoshka, giveaways and more. The free event will also be attended by some tasty Aspen Place tenants including Grimaldi’s Pizzeria, who will be offering pizza and cannoli samples. There will also be raffle prizes from Someburros, Lia Leaf Tea House, Seasoned Kitchen, Mcsweeny the Salon, Board and Brush, Lowell Observatory, The Village at Aspen Place and ESenEM Yoga.

Guests can also dive into the cosmic world by way of art. In partnership with the Coconino Community College, the Lunar Dreams exhibit will be on display at the Comet Art Gallery showcasing paintings, photography, sculpture and mixed-media artwork that celebrate the moon from scientific, cultural and personal perspectives by local and national artists alike.
