Saint Laurent Creates Film Production Company Starring Pedro Almodóvar & David Cronenberg

From fashion production and now to film production, Saint Laurent is venturing onto a new creative stage that will wow its audiences just as much as its luxurious designs.

The French fashion house announced earlier this month that it’s starting its own film production company, Saint Laurent Productions, envisioned by Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello. Saint Laurent Productions will be the first film production company by a luxury brand and already has projects lined up with directors including Pedro Almodóvar, David Cronenberg and Paolo Sorrentino.

Led by Vaccarello, Saint Laurent Productions will be a cinematic reflection of Saint Laurent’s collections and marks a new direction for the brand’s future.

“I want to work with and provide a space for all the great film talents who have inspired me over the years,” Vaccarello said in a statement.

One of the first Saint Laurent Productions projects is a short film titled Strange Way of Life directed by legendary Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar. Premiering this May at the 76th annual Cannes Film Festival, the queer Western film stars Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal and explores a relationship between the actors’ two characters. Saint Laurent is the associate producer of the film and Vaccarello takes the title as costume designer.

All upcoming production projects will also feature costumes designed by Vaccarello for Saint Laurent. Those currently in the works include films directed by David Cronenberg, Paolo Sorrentino, Abel Ferrara, Wong Kar-wai, Jim Jarmusch and Gaspar Noé.

“These directors never fail to open my mind and, in a way, the singular, radical vision they bring to cinema has made me the person I am today,” said Vaccarello in a statement.
