Combining high-end luxury with cheap chic is the addition of two fashion favorites to the Scottsdale area in 2009. Prepare yourself for a 60,000 square foot, two-story Barney’s New York, as well as a 15,000 square foot H&M that will open in two different venues around the Valley. Construction began in 2007 for Barney’s, a project that demolished former department store Robinsons-May and is part of a $130 million renovation at Scottsdale Fashion Square. Barney’s has become synonymous with European-influenced, designer-chic style and is sure to become a Valley favorite come 2009. www.barneys.com.

Less pricey but definitely not less stylish is the Swedish retail store, H&M, which will open its doors to Scottsdale shoppers in 2009 as well. The store, which will be slightly larger than average H&Ms, will open at Scottsdale Quarter, an outdoor shopping center that will be placed across the street from Kierland Commons. www.hm.com.
