When Urban Fraîche opened its doors in Uptown Phoenix a year ago, it wasn’t introducing another restaurant to the city’s dining scene. It was introducing a philosophy. Located along Camelback Road, Urban Fraîche has spent the past year carving out its own space in Phoenix’s culinary landscape by blending farm-to-table Mediterranean cuisine with Egyptian influence, hospitality, and a wellness-forward approach to dining.

For owner and executive chef Dean Waziry, the goal has always been about more than what lands on the plate. Built around the belief that food can be indulgent, elevated, and satisfying without processed sugars, seed oils, or harsh ingredients, the menu shifts daily based on the freshest available ingredients. Wild-caught seafood, natural meats raised without antibiotics, and organic produce form the backbone.
“I’m proud of the food, of course, but I’m even more proud of the people,” Waziry said. “We’ve built a team that feels like family, and we’ve met guests who have become part of that family, too. When people trust us with their birthdays, anniversaries, and special nights, that means everything.”

Born in Cairo, Egypt, and shaped by training in celebrated two- and three-Michelin-starred kitchens, Waziry brings a personal lens to every detail of the experience. His approach combines Mediterranean tradition, Egyptian hospitality, and clean ingredients.

That philosophy has resonated with guests, who have embraced signature dishes like braised curry goat, lamb shoulder, beef Wellington, lobster ravioli, foie gras, rice pudding, and baklava.
But it’s not just the menu drawing diners in. It’s the atmosphere. Birthday celebrations at Urban Fraîche often center around a replica of King Tut’s throne, complete with jewelry, complimentary birthday bubbles, and, depending on the day, belly dancers who join the festivities.

“Phoenix diners want more than a good meal,” Waziry said. “They want flavor, culture, warmth, and something they can remember. They want to feel like they have stepped into another world without leaving the city. We started with clean food and better ingredients, but the vision has grown. Urban Fraîche is about how people eat, gather, celebrate, and care for themselves.”

As the eatery enters its second year, Waziry is focused on expanding the team, growing the brand, and continuing to challenge what healthy dining can look and feel like. For more, visit Urban Fraîche.
