Phoenix-based restaurant group TPQ Foods is continuing its expansion with two new concepts that reflect both its culinary roots and its evolving modern identity: Magdaleña, a wood-fired Latin American restaurant opening in Goodyear, and Paquimex, a fast-casual Mexican concept debuting in Glendale.
Founded by Omar Alvarez, TPQ Foods has built its reputation on traditional Mexican flavors, reimagined through contemporary techniques and hospitality. The group traces its origins back to 2002, when Alvarez opened the first Tortas Paquimé, inspired by the flavors of his hometown in Casas Grandes, Chihuahua.

Now operating seven locations across the Valley, TPQ Foods continues to grow while staying grounded in its emphasis on handmade, nostalgic Mexican cuisine and a collaborative kitchen culture.
Magdaleña is set to debut in late May in Goodyear’s emerging GSQ civic and cultural district. Designed as a wood-fired dining experience rooted in the broader flavors of Latin America, the restaurant was developed by Alvarez alongside Executive Chef Jason Alford and beverage director Gilles Kolakowski.
Magdaleña’s menu centers on open-fire cooking techniques that highlight meats, seafood, and vegetable-forward dishes meant for sharing. Chef Alford, who brings more than a decade of experience, said the concept allows the team to expand their culinary language while staying anchored in elemental technique.

The second concept, Paquimex, will open in Glendale as a modern evolution of Tortas Paquimé. While maintaining the nostalgic flavors that built the original brand’s following, the new fast-casual restaurant introduces a refreshed menu, expanded beverage offerings, and a more streamlined dining experience.
“Paquimex is a natural evolution of our roots,” Alvarez said. “We wanted to build on the foundation of Tortas Paquimé while creating something that reflects how our company has grown. It’s rooted in the same flavors and traditions, but with a new energy and a format designed for where dining is today.”
The expansion reflects TPQ Foods’ broader trajectory from a single neighborhood restaurant into a multi-concept group shaping a distinct corner of the Phoenix dining landscape. For more: tpqfoods.com.
