Barrio Queen is set to celebrate Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos) on Friday, Nov. 2, with big celebrations at each of its Valley locations (Gilbert, Old Town Scottsdale and Desert Ridge Marketplace in Phoenix). The family-friendly festivities include food and drink specials, live mariachi entertainment, face painting and more from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. (Mariachi music starts after 1 p.m.)
Guests are invited to dig into traditional dishes like braised chile ancho beef short rib,s and take advantage of happy hour specials and featured drinks. Be sure to sip the festive Don of the Dead margarita made with the featured tequila of the month, Don Julio Reposado.
In case you need a refresher, Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in particular the Central and South regions, and by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.
