The Moxy Phoenix Downtown Opens in Historic Luhrs Building

The Moxy Phoenix Downtown, a playful, affordable and stylish hotel concept by Marriott Hotel, is now open in the historic Luhrs Building in downtown Phoenix.

Located on the corner of Central Avenue and Jefferson Street, the new hotel opened its doors on December 21 under the management of PEG Hospitality Group. PEG Companies [PEG], a vertically integrated commercial real estate investment company focused on opportunistic and value-added opportunities, and Dallas-based A.G. Hill Partners purchased the historic Luhrs building at the end of 2019 and converted the property into an inviting hotel, while preserving the exterior facade.

“The Luhrs Building stands in a Qualified Opportunity Zone [QOZ] which underscores PEG’s values of reimagining communities,” says Joe Madera, regional director of operations at PEG Hospitality Group. “As one of the oldest buildings in Downtown Phoenix, this building embodies the youthful nature of Moxy while honoring the history of Downtown by becoming an eclectic epicenter.”

Boasting a prime location within walking distance of the Phoenix Convention Center and the Valley Metro light rail, The Moxy Phoenix Downtown offers easy access to some of the hottest downtown shopping and dining destinations, local breweries and popular attractions, including the Footprint Center and Chase Field. Perfect for the business traveler or the weekend warrior coming in for a concert or sports event, the animated hotel combines stylish, industrial design and sociable service at an affordable price point, so that guests can save on space and splurge on experience.

The newly renovated hotel boasts a bright and open lobby layout on the first floor that functions as an inviting lobby, bar and game room with a state-of-the-art video wall and 24/7 food and beverage services that offer a wide selection of snacks and drinks. At the bar, guests can enjoy wines by the glass, local brews and specialty cocktails, such as the “Highball 101” made with a special machine that can’t be found in any other hotel or bar in the Valley. Guests can also expect exotic spirits like Japanese whiskey, as well as cocktails with a more local taste, including agave or prickly pear.

Other hotel amenities include an à la carte food and beverage menu, a complimentary welcome cocktail for every guest upon check-in, as well as luggage lockers, a business center, “Plug and Meet” gathering areas featuring modern ergonomic seating and 55-inch televisions for presentation projection and a state-of-the-art fitness center.

The Moxy Phoenix Downtown is home to 164 guest rooms, which are equipped with 55-inch flat-screen televisions, built-in USB ports, complimentary Wi-Fi and other amenities, such as motion-activated LED guide-lights and walk-in showers. Each guest room is designed to maximize every inch of space with wall features that allow for hanging and storage options to complement the compact room design.

In addition to on-site amenities, the new hotel is ideally located near the Valley Metro light rail, which offers guests quick access to the numerous bars and restaurants of downtown Phoenix.

“The Moxy Phoenix Downtown is where we hope to see the community engage with our eccentric communal spaces,” continues Madera. “Downtown Phoenix is ripe for something different, and our goal is to create a destination spot for our weekend warriors.”
