The Phoenician Celebrates The Holiday Season with Traditional and Contemporary Offerings

“Up & Away Winter Holiday” and “Whole Lotta Hole Golf Gala” Highlight List of Activities

 

The Phoenician, Arizona’s premier AAA Five Diamond resort destination, celebrates the season with an extensive collection of holiday experiences. Throughout the month of December, guests, visitors and local residents can participate in timeless Phoenician traditions as well as new signature offerings.

On Saturday, December 27, from 4 p.m.-7 p.m., the historic Jokake Inn will play host to the second annual “Up & Away Winter Holiday,” complete with cookie decorating, face painting, a horse-drawn carriage, live music and rides in tethered hot air balloons. Author Emily Randolph and Photo Illustrator Dan Merchant will be on-hand to sign purchased copies of the resort’s latest children’s book, Fun at The Phoenician with Phoe-Phoe & Friends. Youngsters can sip on house-made hot cocoa while adults can enjoy festive cocktails from a cash bar. This enchanting evening is complimentary to registered guests and the general public.

New to The Phoenician this year is the “Whole Lotta Hole Golf Gala” on Sunday, December 28, from 3 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. Golfers and novices are invited to test their putting prowess with large, 15-inch cups. Tickets are $30 per person, which includes green fees for 9 holes, cart rental, one beer or two non-alcoholic beverages, light appetizers and prizes. Reservations are required through the Golf Shop (480-423-2450). This fun program is open to registered guests and the general public.

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA

9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. – Saturday, December 13, in Il Terrazzo

$45 per adult; children 3-12 years old, $30

Open to registered guests, as well as the general public

A holiday favorite that is sure to capture the spirit of the season, this time-honored tradition includes cookie decorating with the resort’s award-winning pastry team, as well as photos with Santa. Reservations required at (480) 423-2530.

EVENING CACTUS GARDEN LIGHT TOUR

6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. – Every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday in December

Complimentary to registered guests and the general public (Meet at the Café & Ice Cream Parlor)

A narrated tour through the resort’s two-acre desert retreat – featuring 250 varieties of cacti and succulents – adorned with holiday lights. The Friday program is led by Scott McMahon, collections manager at Desert Botanical Garden. Reservations required through Concierge Desk (480) 423-2572.

FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX

5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. – Every Friday & Saturday on The Thirsty Camel Patio

Complimentary to registered guests and the general public

A signature sunset ritual, where legends fly and spirts soar. Master Falconer Robby Sinkler spins the captivating tale of the Mayan Fire Spirit, which ancients believed could rise from the ashes to be born again. Known as Zopilote Rey, this South American Vulture soars from above, swooping down on the audience to once again regain his regal position amidst a flaming replica of his likeness. Meet other birds of prey who reside at The Phoenician as well.

CHRISTMAS DAY BRUNCH

10 a.m.-3 p.m. – Thursday, December 25, in Il Terrazzo

$95 per adult; children 3-12 years old, half-price

Open to registered guests, as well as the general public

Featuring a carving station of prime rib and honey-glazed ham; breakfast classics including brioche French toast and made-to-order omelets; a sushi and raw bar; seasonal fruit; and a pasta and risotto bar – all complemented by a selection of house-made pastries and desserts by Executive Pastry Chef Roy Pell.
