“Success is not the key to happiness, happiness is the key to success”
I have been thinking a lot about success lately, but not in the way you might think. Most people gauge success as a financial gain, prosperity or notoriety and yes on the grand scheme of things this can definitely mean success. But to me, success, is the smaller things that we tend to overlook that can lead to our overall happiness.
Buying a dozen of my favorite sugar cookies and only eating one after dinner instead of the whole dozen…..SUCCESS. Going out with friends or family and enjoying a variety of foods and not feeling shame or guilt after….SUCCESS. Not being obsessed with scale or overall leanness but learning to live a life I can love my body in ….SUCCESS.
You see of these little “successes” mean so much in my life and more importantly my overall happiness. What kind of life can we lead if we let food, our physical body and comparing ourselves to others control how we feel? As I write this blog it does not mean to throw healthy food and caring for our health out the window, because that is not the purpose of this blog. It is to help us focus on the positive and to end the bad, repetitive habits of self hate, guilt and extreme behaviors as well as to change our “mindset” on how we feel about ourselves.
I now eat when I am hungry and if I am craving something I have it. I also have learned to work through my thoughts. I realized in the past that I binged because I would “deprive”….I now know the food will always be there and I have a “choice” . Food no longer controls me. This is a HUGE success for me, especially after living so many years of letting food control me.
What is success to you?? Ask yourself this question after reading this blog and write down your success, no matter how big or how small. Celebrate your success and continue to make changes for the positive.
