Clutch Worthy

I’m a girl who likes to have a big purse… no strike that, a large purse. I mean I literally want to be able to carry my life in it: phone, wallet, second wallet, notebook, makeup bag, my lunch, and possibly my laptop. With that said, I’m generally not a big fan of clutches—actually I don’t even own one. Of course this tends to cause a lot of drama when I’m invited out with some friends and the occasion calls for something a little more compact because my ever-so-loving husband and his pockets become my would-be clutch.

However, clutches are one of the summer’s growing trends and the different colors and styles seem to be growing exponentially. I must admit there are a few I even want to snag (to the sheer joy of my husband).

At Net-A-Porter

The envelope clutch can take any outfit to the next level. For an edgier look try black leather with studded embellishments or animal print like this Jimmy Choo Carine leather leopard-print envelope clutch.

Color blocking is one of the most talked about trends this summer making it’s appearance on the runway, the pages of almost every fashion magazine, fashion blogs and the like. If you haven’t jumped on this trend’s wagon now is the time—this Stella McCartney Color Block clutch allows anyone to join in on the fun. Its subtle color palate and hint of color makes it a good choice for day or evening.

At Kate Spade New York

The book clutch. Now your favorite classics can be with you everyday of your life. Kate Spade New York (shown above), Chanel, and Olympia Le-Tan (seen on Natalie Portman at the Black Swan premier) have all recently designed these clutches with famous titles such as Lolita, Moby Dick, The Great Gatsby and Emma.

At Net-A-Porter

Designers looked to Neon hues of pink, orange, blue, and yellow on the runway this year. Jason Wu and Versace even went so far as to create brilliantly bright evening gowns—I wonder which stylish celebs will be so bold on the red carpet. If floor length neon gowns aren’t your thing try a neon clutch like this one by Christopher Kane. He managed to incorporate some of this year’s hottest trends with the laser-cut lace effect, neon yellow, and floral design.

Now for my personal favorite—the oversized clutch. How can you go wrong with a “clutch” that is comparable to a decently sized handbag. These clutches can range anywhere from 8 – 15 inches in width and some even larger. So if you too need to have your life with you at all times oversized clutches will give you the space you need without compromising the rest of your look.
