‘Shop It Forward’ at Scottsdale Fashion Square to Benefit Valley Nonprofits

Just in time for the holiday giving season, the Shop It Forward event at Scottsdale Fashion Square begins on Oct. 15. This four-month-long event, that goes through Feb. 15, will allow shoppers to give back to participating local nonprofits.

Shoppers can submit receipts from shopping, dining and entertainment at the mall to earn points toward donations for the nonprofits. These points can be designated toward specific organizations the shopper wants to support. Scottsdale Fashion Square will award a combined $25,000 to five participating organizations: Arizona Theatre Company, The Board of Visitors Care Card, Arizona Humane Society, Homeward Bound AZ and Trees Matter.

Arizona Theatre Company’s mission is to “create world-class theatre about what it means to be alive today—inspiring curiosity and creativity, sparking empathy and joy—bringing all Arizonans together.” The Board of Visitors Care Card is a charitable organization that raises funds for nonprofits that serve the healthcare needs of women, children and the elderly. This year’s recipient of the Care Card is the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Big Pink Bus.

The Arizona Humane Society aims to save the most vulnerable animals and enrich the lives of pets and people at their locations around Arizona. Homeward Bound AZ offers a homelessness prevention program with the goal to keep families on the brink of homelessness together in their own homes by providing rent assistance, financial support and resource navigation. Trees Matter is a Phoenix-based 501(c)(3) environmental education nonprofit, whose mission is to inspire and promote an increased tree canopy in the Valley.

“Shop It Forward has become a beloved seasonal tradition at Scottsdale Fashion Square,” says Melanie Sutton, Senior Marketing Manager of the upscale shopping center. “The give-back program appeals to shoppers who know they’re helping make a positive impact on the community while making purchases for the holidays and beyond.”

To help rack up points, customers can shop, dine and enjoy entertainment at the mall. With each purchase, the selected program will receive five points per every $1 spent. There will also be opportunities to receive bonus points (10 points per $1 spent). These points will be available for selected retail categories during certain timeframes. Another opportunity for bonus points will be available for families visiting Santa. Those families can earn triple points with the purchase of any photo package from Nov. 16 through Dec. 24.
