Miss Universe 2010

Last night after watching Caroline Manzo and Danielle Staub yell it out in HD, I realized that the Miss Universe pageant would be gracing the airwaves in only seconds. Of course my sweet husband reluctantly agreed at first, but being that he is a smart guy he gets it, he knows that I am not going to be watching sports tonight. And of course once he saw Roxanna Purcell, Miss Ireland, he was suddenly hooked.

The evenings hosts were the gorgeous Natalie Morales looking very un-Today show in her parade of gowns from blue to yellow to black for the evening and her sidekick The Celebrity Apprentice himself Bret Michaels.

I for one was amazed at how Teflon this guy is, I mean wasn’t he incapacitated by a brain stroke or hemorrhage only two months ago? In any case he was back to usual bandana- wearing-eye-lining form and the two were quite the pair. In fact I think that Bret may have been on the verge of hyper-ventilating at one point because he seemed to keep repeating “you look beautiful” to all of the contestants. Of course all that came to my mind was…now he sees what hair extensions and false lashes are really supposed to look like….

I must say this year the contestants were absolutely gorgeous more so than any previous pageant I can recall…and really who wouldn’t be with all that teeth whitening, fake tanning, botox and the aforementioned extensions. Of course these days with every pageant comes a little bit of plastic surgery but I did notice that this years delegates seemed to have had less implants than in other years… perhaps after the Carrie Prejean scandal au- natural seemed a better option.

This year 82 women competed fromaround the globe at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas with very prominent sponsor Chi Systems by Farouk flat ironing and curling their way through the entire show…. It actually made me wonder, did Donald buy the company?

This years the women were narrowed to eighteen, than ten, than the top five. I have to agree with my husband and apparently the Vegas odds makers, I was pulling for Ireland…maybe it was the accent or the fact that she looked at times so much like Ursula Andress,

Another favorite of mine was Miss Congeniality Jesinta Campbell of Australia despite the fact that the stunning Venus Raj from the Phillipines had the biggest buzz on the internet

But ultimately Miss Mexico Jimena Navarette took home the crown in a gorgeous flowing red gown. It was obvious from the swimwear competition on when she received the highest score of 9.2 that Mexico was a frontrunner. Miss Navarette’s final question…you guessed it the Arizona Immigration Law.
